News for the Scarlet and Violet Series

Hey there Collectors! Did you hear about the latest series coming to the Pokémon TCG? Well Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launched in November 2022 and is now making its way to the TCG! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is set in the newest region of the Pokémon Universe, the Paldea region, which is full of wonders and new discoveries!

So what is new with the TCG?

Well first of all a new region means new Pokémon! And how can we look past the amazing new starters; Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly! There is a large array of new Pokémon that are sure to impress once they find their way into a collection on deck. These include the likes of Smolive, Flamigo, Cyclizar, Grafiai, Klawf, Lokix, Grevard and Finizin. There is also new regional varents and evolutions for Pokémon previously discovered in other regions, these include; Wooper, Firigiraf and Iron-Bundle. Of course with a new region comes a new set of legendary Pokemon, Scarlet and Violet bring forth a some new additions to these ranks. There is Koraidon, Miraidon, Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu and Chi-Yu.

We are very excited to see all these Pokémon and more make their TCG debuts over the Scarlet and Violet Series!

But what is changing?

Going forward in the evolution of the TCG and cards you will notice changes that are being rolled out in the Scarlet and Violet series.

Firstly, the classic yellow framing border will be replaced by the silver border which is used in Japan. According to The Pokémon Company, this change has been done so that the cards are in their intended borders and frames the artwork better. This also to help unify the game on a global level.

Secondly, the Subcategory of Trainer Cards such as Supporter and Stadium, which have previously been located on the top right of the card will now be moved to the top left. This has been done to help in the playing of the TCG making them easier to distinguish and be more visible in a players hand.

Thirdly, Energy card names will now be displayed on the top of the card along with a sub typing tag for Energy. The Energy symbol will also moving, it will be moved to the bottom right of the card. This change is said to help make the amount and type of Energy cards attached to a Pokémon move visible and clearer to follow for all players in the TCG.

Finally, the Expansion symbol that is located on the bottom left of all cards to help determine what set/series the card is from will be replaced by a code. This code will remain on the bottom left of the cards and is said to be an easier and clearer way of identifying cards from different sets and series.

UPDATE

One final update, we have yet to see it but it has been confirmed by the Pokémon Company themselves! “To continue providing a positive Pokémon TCG experience and value, each pack of Pokémon cards will now feature three guaranteed foil cards per booster- all cards with a rarity of “Rare” or higher will now be foil. In addition, certain products will come with additional items. For example, the Elite Trainer Box will include an additional booster pack and a full-art promo card”.

This is pretty interesting news coming out of the Pokémon Company and one we are curious to see how it carries on through the development of the entire Scarlet and Violet Series.
